With smartphones quickly gaining popularity consumers are more eager than ever to get ahold of a one of the many low-priced Android devices stepping in to fill more conservative buyer’s pockets. A common misconception is that customers have to fork over a huge chunk of change to pick up a smartphone, luckily there are now many budget phones on the market with low price tags and high review ratings. If you’ve been searching for a quality Android device that won’t break the bank, here are five of our favorite picks:
HTC Wildfire :

The HTC Wildfire includes a 5MP camera capable of great quality photos and videos, a TFT capacitive touchscreen, Android OS 2.2 and a 528 MHz processor. The battery life of the HTC Wildfire also proved to be fairly impressive, providing users up to 8 hours of talk time. The innovatively designed HTC Wildfire is the perfect smart phone offering great features for those in the market for an affordable device.
LG Optimus One P500 :

The LG Optimus One is one of the more powerful Android phones in it’s price range, running smoothly on it’s 600MHz processor. The battery packs offers a very usable 1500mAh giving the device more than enough juice to function for roughly two days at average usage. Most appealing about the Optimus One is it’s ability to upgrade to Android 2.3, a rarity for many android devices sharing a similar price tag. All of the mentioned features make the Optimus One an undeniably great device with an equally appealing price.
ZTE Blade :
- Software: Android 2.1 (Upgradable to 2.2)
- CPU: 600MHz ARM 11
- RAM: 512MB RAM
- Weight: 110g

- External Memory: microSD

- Battery: 1250mAh, 4 hours talk time, 8 days standby
The ZTE , also referred to as the Dell XCD35, T-Mobile Blade, and (in the United Kingdom) the Orange San Francisco. This phone sports a common 600 MHz processor and runs Android 2.2 Froyo with ease. Despite it’s many nicknames, the device has received little attention (due to it’s fairly generic feature-set).
Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 :
- Software: Android 2.2
- CPU: 600MHz
- Weight: 105g
- Display: 3.14-inch TFT, 240×320 pixel
- External Storage: microSD
- Camera: 3.15MP, 2048×1536 pixels
- Battery: 1200mAh, 9 hours and 30 minutes talk time, 23 days standby
Samsung’s Galaxy Mini is one of the newer low-budget Android phones. It offers WIFI N for faster connectivity and is physically built tough, giving users a long lasting and problem-free device. Without any outstanding features, this device does little by way of “standing out in the crowd” despite it’s popular Samsung Galaxy name.
Huawei IDEOS U8150 :
- Software: Android 2.2
- CPU: 528MHz ARM 11
- RAM: 256 MB
- Weight: 102.1g
- Display: 2.8-inch TFT, 240×320 pixels
- External Memory: microSD
- Camera: 3.15MP, 2048×1536 pixels
- Battery: 1200mAh, 5 hours talk time, 12 days standby
The Huawei IDEOS U8150 is one of the cheapest Android phones currently available for purchase. While the screen is slightly smaller than average it’s still a great choice for anyone (both novice and experienced) looking to purchase an Android phone. One of the device’s unique selling points (similar to the Galaxy Mini) is it’s WIFI N support, opening up the ability to use N-based networks for speedier browsing.
Conclusion:
These 5 picks are that only of the GizmoDigit team. That being said, new devices are released every day…we encourage customers to gather their own opinions of devices or test devices that went unmentioned. Take the previously-mentioned devices into consideration, but do your own research to see which Android device is right for you (and your budget)!
