The Amazon Appstore made some friends offering a paid app for free; Amazon offers one paid application per day free. Updates, which may be pretty important, are not included in the Amazon Appstore give away.
Now, GetJar has followed Amazon by introducing GetJar Gold. GetJar will start giving away top Android applications free to Gold members. We are told the company will only offer one-time downloads.
GetJar free apps will differ from Amazon in that gold members will be provided with a list of top Android apps each week. This week the selection includes apps like Swiftkey X, Backbreaker, The Moron Test, Age of Zombies, Hockey Nations 2010, and a few others.
Like Amazon, GetJar only offers single app downloads as updates are not normally on their list. It is not known at this time if updates will ever be offered. Updates can be pretty important so you may have to purchase updates in the future, as we do not know if GetJar will ever provide free updates. GetJar’s promotions apply only to members in the US and UK.
Free is good so we should probably not complain about whether or not free updates are included. We know free apps will get you to the app store and you may make a purchase while you are there so it is probably a win-win situation. Who knows, either GetJar or Amazon could start offering free updates, in which case the other would probably have to follow suit.
