Finally! The Olso-based Opera Software ASA released its updated mini iOS browser for Apple mobile devices. The Opera Mini 6 browser is now available for a free download at Apple’s App Store for use on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s been over a year since the Mini 5 was released, so it’s high time Opera finally perfected its new release. The Opera Mini 5 browser is extremely popular because of its quick-loading pages using its proprietary compression technology. Mobile device users keeping an eye on their data quotas and roaming charges, can save time and money using Opera instead of the default browser Safari. “It features up to 90% compression of data traffic for speed and cost savings, making both your patience and wallet happy on slower connections or when roaming,” reads the company’s press release.

The improvements to Opera’s Mini 6 browser may seem subtle, but the company claims the new release is just like Rock and Roll. “I would compare it to walking onto the stage and hearing the roar of the crowd,” said Opera’s, CEO Lars Boilesen, adding “Now, it is Opera Mini 6’s turn to get its name up in lights.”

All hyperbole and Rock and Roll references aside, the Mini 6 is faster and easier to use. The browser’s navigation controls have been changed to conform with Safari’s, making for an easier transition between the two browsers.

And tabbed browsing, (Hooray!) saves the need to open up a new window, saving resources. The scrolling and panning features have also been beefed up and made faster.
