The long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 made a splashy debut at Best Buy this week, wowing Android tablet fans with its sleek design and powerful Tegra 2 processor. For those users who have been yearning for a tablet with the classy svelte design of an iPad 2 combined with the Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS, the new Galaxy Tab fits the bill, and then some. It feels good in your hand and even weighs less than the exemplary iPad. And the Galaxy Tab is a looker. The word “sexy” is the adjective most uttered by reviewers, after spending a little quality time with the Tab. But it’s also a beast inside, with its dual core 1GHz processor that can handle anything you throw at it. That’s not to say the Tab doesn’t have a couple of drawbacks. We all have our faults, right? The most frequent gripe is the stunning lack of ports on the device, particularly the absence of a USB port. But the lack of ports aside, the Galaxy Tab has more pros than cons. And in the final analysis, it’s a powerful sexy beast of a tablet device that should put smiles on the faces of Android devotees.
The Galaxy Tab’s Slim Classy Design
The Tab’s generous 10.1 inch screen is framed by a contoured silver metallic border that begs to be touched. It’s also available in metallic gray black. Both Tabs feature a white plastic back. Its weight and slimness rivals the iPad. The Galaxy Tab is razor thin, sporting a width of just 6.9″ and and a .34″ depth. And it weighs in at a light as a feather 1.25 lbs. For those of you keeping score; the iPad weighs considerably more at 1.34 lbs. But both devices are nearly equally as thin.
Speakers are positioned on both sides of the Tab. The top edge features a power/sleep button, volume control and headphone jack. The front of the Tab features a 2MP front-facing camera and the back has a 3MP rear-facing camera with LED flash.
The Galaxy Tab’s Sweet Touch Screen Display
The Tab’s display qualities are amazing. It features a LCD high-definition widescreen touch-screen display with 1280 x 800 resolution. The display offers big, bold, beautiful colors, perfect for gaming and viewing videos. And the touch-screen function responds intuitively.
What’s Inside the Tab?
The Galaxy Tab is powered by a smokin’ NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor featuring a processor speed of 1.0GHz. This tablet can handle it all. The Tab also has GPS, Bluetooth, a healthy 7,000mAh battery and it supports a Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n network.
