The new ultra light and portable Sony VAIO Z will be available in stores by the end of the month. The sleek new laptop from Sony is incredibly light, weighing in at just over 1 kilogram (2.5 pounds) and is just about 16.5 mm thick.
The case of the VAIO Z is flat, and doesn’t have some parts thicker than others. The display on the Z is gorgeous. Capable of displaying HD screen resolutions in millions of colors. The screen also has a very nice anti-reflective coating. One other interesting feature of the laptop is its use of a ‘quick boot’ feature that will get users into Windows 7 in less than 15 seconds.

- Intel Core i7-2620M 2.70GHz CPU with Turbo Boost up to 3.40GHz

Despite the small size and weight, this computer is a powerhouse. It comes equipped with Intel’s Core i7 CPU, and a fast SSD drive on top of the powerful CPU. Using a secondary battery that comes in a ‘sheet’ form factor, users can expand the battery life of the laptop to over 13 hours. 8 gigabytes of RAM will also do a lot to ensure fast loading times and great performance.
If you’ve been considering getting an Apple MacBook Air, you may want to rethink your decision and wait for this notebook. Thinner and lighter than the air, it packs 4 times the RAM, and at much more CPU power. Unfortunately, all of this power and portability comes at a price, which will leave your wallet considerably lighter. At around $2,000 USD for the basic model, users can spend well over double this amount if they choose to go for many of the bells and whistles available.
