If you are looking to purchase a tablet anytime in the near future then this comparison article is going to give you a detailed look into three of the most popular tablets on the market today – the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Apple iPad 2. We already compare Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple iPad 2 here: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Vs iPad 2
Design :
Apple is known for their sturdy design and while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Xoom are incredible tablets in terms of design, I’m going to have to give to the iPad 2 for this one because it’s simply hard to beat any design by Apple although the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the slimmest of them all.
Winner: iPad 2
Display/Screen :
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 isn’t as wide as the Apple iPad 2, but it does feature a larger screen – although it isn’t even an inch larger. Comparing the iPad 2 to the iPad, there isn’t much of a difference in screen resolution and the screen resolution is much more significant, vibrant and crisp with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. To be more specific, the Xoom and Galaxy Tab 10.1 both feature 10.1-inch screens with a 1280 x 800 resolution display while the iPad 2 features a 9.7-inch screen with a lower resolution of 1024 x 768.
Winner: Tie Between Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Motorola Xoom
Hardware/Processor :
The Apple iPad 2 runs a 1GHz dual-core A5 CPU while the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 both run a 1 GHz dual-core Nvida Tegra 2, which is gaining in popularity on the tablet and smartphone market due to the fact that it can provide 3D images and vector graphics.
Winner: Tie Between Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Motorola Xoom
Operating System :
The Xoom and Galaxy Tab 10.1 both run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb and the iPad 2 runs on iOS 4.3.
Apple has been known for their incredible, unique approach to their software; however, in a cutthroat world, Apple doesn’t really cut it when put in the rink with Android OS. While iOS is the first choice in regards to usability, a quick and incredibly responsive operating system in that of Android is preferred by many that aren’t “suited” for the iOS. You can multi-task like crazy without interference on the Xoom and Galaxy Tab 10.1 plus the browsing is faster than that of the iPad 2.
And when you consider the fact that many will want to use their tablet for the watching of videos, playing games, and other activities that require the use of Flash, Apple iPad 2 is thrown out the window without a second thought about it. However, it really all comes down to preference of the user.
Winner: Triple Tie
Apps :
Apple has the largest selection of apps having more than 400,000 total apps and more than 100,000 specific to the tablet. Android has over 200,000 total apps and 230 that are specific to the Honeycomb tablets. These are only estimates and were done at the time of launch.
Obviously, you are going to choose the tablet that has more apps available; however, it should be noted that the Android marketplace is growing increasingly fast and will likely meet and surpass the amount of apps that Apple has.
Winner: Apple iPad 2
Camera and Multimedia Function :
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 3MP rear-facing camera that has 720 pixel video capturing capability with a 1080 pixel playback and a 2MP front-facing camera. The iPad 2 also comes equipped with two cameras – a VGA front-facing camera and a 1mp rear-facing camera making it the p[oorest of all three. The Motorola Xoom definitely has the best camera function and features a front-facing camera at 2MP as well as a rear-facing 5MP camera with 720 pixel capturing ability, 1080 pixel playback and a dual LED flash.
Due to MP, Motorola Xoom wins this one while the iPad didn’t stand a chance in this comparison. Had Samsung stuck with their 8MP pre-release front-facing camera, they would have won hands-down on this one.
Winner: Motorola Xoom
Connectivity :
All three models have been created for the use with 3G networks and consist of Wi-Fi capabilities.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity. However, it lacks HDMI and USB ports creating a lack of versatility though it does feature a 3.5 mm jack for jamming to your favorite tunes – however, all three tablets have this.
The Motorola Xoom can be upgraded to a 4G network and comes with extra HDMI as well as USB 2.0 ports. It also has 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity and USB port for Bluetooth 2.1.
Not to be totally outshined by the other two tablets (although it does fail to compare), the Apple iPad 2 also has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n capability.
Winner: Motorola Xoom
Storage/Battery Life :
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 can come with 16GB, 32GB or 64 GB of internal storage, as does the Apple iPad 2 whereas the Xoom has 32GB of internal storage.
The iPad 2 is said to last around seven hours while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is manufactured estimated at 12 hours. The Xoom has a 6500 mAh battery with up to 10 hours of life, the iPad 2 has 25 Wh battery with up to 10 hours of life and Samsung has 7000 mAh with up to 7 hours of battery life.
Winner: Apple iPad 2
Conclusion :
If you are an Apple lover then absolutely nothing can compare to the experience that you will have with the iPad 2 and the iOS; however, not everyone is comfortable with the iOS and would prefer a much more customizable experience, which can be offered with that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
If you ask me, I would take Flash over the iOS any day resulting in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Motorola Xoom as the winner of this comparison. However, when it comes down to it, the answer can only be decided by you, your lifestyle and your needs.

nice comparision.
im glad i found this. i got my wife the ipad 2 as a gift. im looking at the Galaxay 10.1. do you know if you can upload pictures (from your computer into the galaxy)? reason because i would like to use it to share pictures instead of carrying picture albums around to show customers of my work. same with the xoom. can you upload pictures from your computer/laptop into xoom or galaxy 10.1?
Hello, Lorenzo.
Yes you can upload images/videos to your Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
-Outside the tablet-
I have the Motorola Xoom and it came with a USB cable that you can hook up to your computer/laptop. From there it appears as an external device. You go into the device, into the next folder, and find the photos/movies folder. Just copy your files into those corresponding folders.
-Inside the tablet-
After you have copied your files into the tablet’s memory, you will have a shortcut (app) that is called “Gallery”. Inside there you will have your Pictures/Movies folders depending on which you copied your files to.
Hope this helps you out Lorenzo.
Correction : although the Xoom only has a Max of 32 gb internal storage, you can still add another 32gb via micro SD slot and with new updates coming up, you will soon be able to access external hard drives through the USB port. Winner: Moto
Ps- because Google is working with Motorola, the Xoom will always be first to update to the newest software.
I wonder if USB ports and access to external drives is really worth considering nowadays. I got an iPad when they were first released and to this day I have never wanted or needed access to anything that would require a USB port, micro SD slot or hard drive. The way we access and use data is changing fast.
Also, as far as apps go, we have been looking very hard at this and have discovered that the best app for our purposes and clientele is a web based app that runs on everything. These apps are only going to get better as bandwidth and processing power increases, so appstores may become a thing of the past.
I am happy with the comparison between the three, but i really did not llike the iPad2 . I am seriously confused between the Xoom and the Galaxy tab 10.1.
