Xbox LIVE Spring Update Adds Ability To Pay With PayPal

As technology has evolved online purchases have become incredibly popular, eventually spawning online payment “mediums” like PayPal. Microsoft is currently in the process of rolling out an update (over the “next couple of weeks” which includes the ability to use PayPal accounts as payment for Xbox Live in over 20 countries around the world which can be used to purchase Microsoft Points and Xbox Live subscriptions. Previously account subscriptions could be purchased in-store (at various game shops) or online via credit card.

However, the following countries won’t be able to use the PayPal functionality:

Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan

It’s quickly becoming common-practice to make PayPal a payment option, so it’s likely only a matter of time until other consoles like the Wii or PlayStation 3 take on a similar method.

The Xbox Live update also includes an announced automatic standby features which puts your console in to a “sleep” mode when it’s been left on for more than one hour. The option can be disabled, but is initially enabled.
